See the paintings in their eyes

You're my salve
Yet be reptilian enough not to care
In many a mimicked moon and the bearded stars
The serpent heard a flicker
In her sleep, and her dreaming
The boy and beast crept afar
See all the humans fight and fawn
Still the naked beauty of her soul lay fair
And often through your rude and worn disguise
She saw his inner form so bright and bare
Where once was charm, now a strange device
Murmured on mute lips and tender of tone
Could make his spirit mingle with her own
'Tis said in time he'd set her free
He'll die alone with that their noose
Knew what love was
Yet felt it alone
Be still
I'm having a beautiful day
