Ishtar

As she bowed down her hopeless head
In the drift of the wild world's tide
And dying
"Thou hast conquered", she said
"I wait"; she said it, and died
How doth he expect her to forget him now
She knows not of any promises made
She knows they never come
Years have risen and fallen in the darkness or in twilight
Ages waxed and waned
No, she can ne'er do well, not well without him
He is down from heaven til earth seemed more than heaven divine
He has shut out sense and hearing in waves
Permitting glimpses of surroundings at interval
But her soul stands fast that gave her life and speech
She will not forget him
She will not leave him behind
She says "Catch up my lord"
My renaissance man
Without the merest beam of sunlight left
My love is as far as the moon
